This semester I’ve created more logos than I ever have before! Since I am a multimedia major, it’s a given that would learn how to use adobe products. I would say that this semester I use adobe products almost every day! It’s an amazing skill that I’ve learned since I’ve been able to put it to use in many ways! One of those ways is creating logos for personal and professional use. In one of my classes (print ad design – super neat) we’ve been creating products for clients to get a feel of what working with real life clients would be like. So far, it’s been a lot of fun! In another class (graphic design – hard sometimes) we’ve taken a more creative approach and focused on the process of creating logos from scratch. When I combine these two classes, I think I’ve been able to create some cool designs as a result!
One of these designs that I am most proud of is my concept for The Antelope student newspaper at UNK. Our assignment was to create a new logo for the student newspaper that both represents the university and has a modern feel. Although my logo wasn’t chosen as the final design for the newspaper, I’m still proud of my work and think that it’s a good example of incorporating qualities of the client and introducing it in a new way. I’m looking forward to seeing the new logo of the newspaper, which will hopefully boost visibility of the newspaper both on campus and on social media.
Another design that we’ve worked on in print ad design is creating a new logo for a local bridal shop called Hello Beautiful Bridal. I enjoyed the process of creating the logo and business card for the bridal shop and appreciated the critiques given by my peers and the client during the evaluation process. This assignment was different and was kind of difficult. Although we did have some requirements given to us by the client, it was still difficult to come up with something that the client would immediately love. This project was different than the first since working with this client would be more of a process and required more trial and error to get to something that the client would like to use for their brand.
Finally I also have a simple logo that I created for my graphic design class. We had to incorporate elements of ourselves and how we’d like to represent that through design. The assignment called for including elements of our personality type (mine is ISFP). ISFP are creative and independent. I wanted to incorporate creativity and art into my logo since my major involves me using my creativity most of the time. Thus, the paintbrush logo was born! I’m proud of the fact that I was able to make the paintbrush stroke look like rainbow (you think so too right?). There are some improvements to be made but overall it looks good!
This experience of creating logos and branding for clients and myself has been a good one! I like being creative and taking the vision that I have in my head and making them tangible. The process of talking with a client, taking their ideas, and showing them what I come up with has been more interesting than I imagined. These classes have shown me that the career I’m working towards might be one that I will really enjoy! Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life!
